Tone & Manner garden design was founded by award winning garden designer and gardener Hamzah-Adam Desai

Prior to this I spent 21 years working as a graphic designer and I am a graduate of Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design.

I retrained as a garden designer at Capel Manor College and graduated in 2021 where I was awarded The Gardeners Company Prize for exceptional horticultural studies by the Worshipful Company of Gardeners of London.

Having a firm grounding in design I combine my love of gardening and plants with spatial design. No two clients are the same and my designs are tailored to each client as it is important to understand and listen to your ideas to establish your vision. I create innovative contemporary gardens for people to enjoy and spend time in – gardens are for people.

I love plants and my aim is to create climate-friendly gardens which work in our ever-changing climate which have a positive benefit on wildlife as well as my clients mental and physical wellbeing.

I am also a keen gardener and passionate about community focused gardening. I have been gardening an award winning community garden since 2009 in East London where I also live.

Planting Design Consultancy

Not all gardens need a complete redesign and a planting design or a refresh of existing borders could be for you. My service includes plant research, detailed planting plans, plant sourcing and plant installation. I also work with other garden designers and architects providing a planting service.

Garden Consultancy

If you simply require some inspiration or advice to help with a garden project or if you need help to further develop your garden then I offer a one-off garden consultation. This consultation is intended to give you the opportunity to seek advice and guidance on all aspects of your garden. This service is suitable for those who are not ready to commit to a full garden design but want some practical guidance on how to approach the first steps in designing your garden. 

This service includes a detailed report containing guidance on layout, paving, gravel and planting with helpful to-do lists and links to trusted suppliers.

Container Garden & Plant Styling

I have extensive experience of working with restaurants and commercial organisations with a design-led container planting service which I offer for both indoor (house plants) and exterior environments. To ensure your greenery looks its best all year I also offer an ongoing weekly maintenance service.
